Plug-in Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Grant

Eligible Beneficiaries

Private consumers and businesses purchasing qualifying new zero-emission WAVs and registering them to a UK address.

Eligible Vehicle Type

New wheelchair accessible vehicles converted from eligible passenger vehicles, including Category M1 vehicles.

Grant Discount Rate

Some eligible WAVs can receive a 35% discount, subject to the maximum grant of £2,500. (Find a Grant)

Key Vehicle Requirements

The base vehicle must be priced at £50,000 or less, have zero tailpipe CO₂ emissions, be capable of travelling at least 112 km (70 miles) without emissions, and be suitable for conversion into a WAV. The £50,000 price excludes conversion costs. (GOV.UK)

Vehicle Registration Requirement

The grant can only be claimed for new WAVs at first registration. The qualifying vehicle must be registered to a UK address and licensed for use on UK roads. (GOV.UK)

Conversion Requirement

Pre-registration conversions can qualify. Post-registration conversions are not eligible. (GOV.UK)

Eligible Base Vehicles

The current Find a Grant page lists Citroën e-Berlingo, Citroën e-Spacetourer Business M, Citroën e-Spacetourer Business XL, Peugeot e-Rifter and Vauxhall Vivaro-e Life - Combi as vehicles that can be converted. The eligible list is regularly updated. (Find a Grant)

End Customer Limit

End customers are limited to 20 orders per financial year. (Find a Grant)

Application Process for Manufacturers

Manufacturers seeking to have a base vehicle approved for the scheme must complete Form A: WAV grant scheme number application and Form B: WAV grant application cover sheet, with the required supporting evidence. (GOV.UK)

Applicant Requirements

The applicant for vehicle eligibility must be a UK company and provide company, registered address, contact, finance director and vehicle information as required by the application forms. (GOV.UK)

Technical Evidence

Applicants must provide supporting evidence in English. Evidence should generally relate to the base vehicle rather than the converted vehicle, unless otherwise specified. (GOV.UK)

Battery / Fuel Cell Requirement

Applicants must demonstrate an acceptably low rate of battery or fuel-cell degradation. For battery electric vehicles, the guidance gives 80% of initial or rated capacity for the first 3 years or 70% for the first 5 years as acceptable levels, subject to the evidence provided. (GOV.UK)

Grant Claim Process

Once a vehicle has been approved, the manufacturer and selected dealerships receive access to the online portal to register eligible vehicle claims. Claims are paid to the manufacturer monthly. (GOV.UK)

Point of Sale Process

The grant is deducted from the vehicle purchase price by the dealership at the point of sale. (GOV.UK)
